How to Find and Enter Tennis Tournaments in Australia

Tennis Australia endorsed tournaments are listed on its competitive play calendar. Before you enter, you need a Tennis ID and a Competitive Player Profile, which links that ID to your UTR rating. UTR is Tennis Australia's national rating, and endorsed results count towards it. Seniors play in five-year age groups from 30. This is an independent guide; check each event's own entry page for the rules that apply.

About this guide

Racketlovers is an independent live-scoring app. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Tennis Australia, UTR Sports or the ITF, and the app does not connect to their systems.

Before you enter: Tennis ID and Competitive Player Profile

Since 1 September 2023, everyone entering a Tennis Australia endorsed tournament or league needs a Competitive Player Profile (CPP). It connects your Tennis ID (an 11-digit number starting with 66) with your UTR account, so your results reach your rating.

  1. Get a Tennis ID by registering through Tennis Australia's Match Centre, if you don't have one already.
  2. Create a UTR account on utrsports.net if you don't have one.
  3. Set up your Competitive Player Profile so the two are linked.
  4. Search the calendar, enter your events and pay the fee before entries close.

Go to tennis.com.au and open the competitive play calendar. Filter by state, dates and type of event (junior, open, or coloured ball for younger children). Each listing shows the venue, the surface, the events on offer and how to enter.

Leagues and club competitions are usually organised through your club or local association, often using Match Centre. Your state member association can help if you can't find what you need.

How UTR is used in Australia

Tennis Australia was the first national body to make UTR its national rating. UTR runs from 1.00 to 16.50, and a higher number means a stronger player. Results from endorsed tournaments and leagues are verified results, so they count towards your rating.

Many tournaments use UTR to decide entry, acceptance and seeding, and some draws are split into UTR bands so matches are closer. A new player's rating becomes reliable after a handful of verified matches.

Senior tennis in Australia

Senior players compete in five-year age groups from 30+ upwards. Tennis Seniors Australia and the state seniors associations run national and state championships, team events and the pathway to international seniors events.

Age groups are normally based on the age you reach in the calendar year, but check the rules of each event.

What to expect on match day

  • Sign in with the referee before your scheduled time; draws and times can change, so check the event page the night before.
  • Most matches have no umpire. Players call their own lines and the server calls the score.
  • Know the format. Short sets and 10-point match tiebreaks are common, especially in one-day and seniors events. See our tiebreak rules guide.
  • Report the result to the referee straight after the match.

Let family follow your match live

With the Racketlovers app you can score your tournament match live: enter the games at each changeover and your opponent confirms them. Share the match link and family can follow along in the free app, without creating an account, even from another state. Every match is saved to your history.

Racketlovers does not send results to Tennis Australia or UTR; the referee records the result that counts.
