How padel scoring works

Padel counts like tennis: points are love, 15, 30 and 40, six games win a set with two games clear, and a tiebreak is played at 6–6. The one real difference is what happens at 40–40, and since 2026 there are three ways to play it.

Advantage, golden point and Star Point

With advantage scoring, a team must win two points in a row from 40–40, for as long as it takes. With the golden point, the point played at 40–40 decides the game. The Star Point sits in between: the first two advantages are played as usual, and if the score comes back to 40–40 a third time, one point decides the game.

A Star Point example

40–40. Team A wins the next point: advantage A. Team B wins the point after: 40–40 again. Team B wins the next point: advantage B, the second advantage. Team A wins the point after: 40–40 for the third time. Now the Star Point is played, and whoever wins it wins the game. Win either advantage point and the game ends there.

Who uses the Star Point

The International Padel Federation (FIP) approved the Star Point on 28 November 2025. Since 2026 it is used in Premier Padel, the CUPRA FIP Tour, FIP Promises and the amateur FIP Beyond circuit. Many clubs and friendly matches still play the golden point or advantage, so agree on the rule before the first point.

Tiebreak and super tie-break

At 6–6 a tiebreak is played: first to seven points, win by two, and the set is recorded as 7–6. Many club and amateur events replace the third set with a super tie-break: first to ten points, win by two. Pick the format in Match settings before the first point.

Who serves in padel doubles

Serving rotates through all four players: a player from team A, then a player from team B, then A's partner, then B's partner. Each team may choose which partner serves first at the start of every set. In a tiebreak the player due to serve takes one point, then service changes every two points, still in the same rotation. The serve order rules follow tennis.

Questions about the padel scoreboard

Is Star Point the official padel rule now?+

Yes, for the circuits that adopted it: the FIP approved the Star Point in November 2025, and since 2026 it is used in Premier Padel, the CUPRA FIP Tour, FIP Promises and FIP Beyond. Club matches often still use the golden point or advantage, which is why the scoreboard lets you switch.

Can I change the deuce rule in the middle of a match?+

Yes. The new rule applies from the next point, and Undo takes the change back if you tapped it by mistake.

Do I need an account?+

No. The scoreboard runs in your browser and saves the match on your device only. Nothing is uploaded.

Can friends follow this score live?+

Not from this page: it is a private scorekeeper on one device. To share a padel match live, score it in the Racketlovers app, where your opponents confirm the score and friends follow in the free app.
